Round three of the Busselton District Junior Football competition was played in atrocious conditions on Saturday, with driving wind and rain turning games into a slogfest.
Games were turned into a battle of wills, as sublime skills and fancy team strategies went into the too-hard basket.
Inching the ball forward and soccering the ball across sheets of water became the norm.
The feature game of the round, played at Dunsborough Playing Fields, saw Dunsborough Sharks year 9-10 team up against a well-performed Wanderers outfit.
Wanderers coach Daniel Delaney has his team up and running and they handled the conditions far better than a gallant, but under-manned Dunsborough, running out winners by 60 points.
Brody Clark is an exceptional leader of the Wanderers and he once again led the way, setting up many forward thrusts.
The Busselton-Dunsborough Mail player of the week is Wanderers centre half forward Ethan Piggott.
The big number 21 took advantage of good supply by his midfield to kick five goals; an extraordinary haul in the awful conditions.
The Cape Naturaliste College year 10 student was also the consumate team player, creating numerous opportunities for his team mates.
Piggott places great emphasis on team play and has modelled his game on West Coast's Josh Kennedy.
On Saturday, he looked like a clone of the AFL full-forward, except for the sore elbow.
Congratulations to Ethan Piggott on being the round three winner of the junior player of the week.
The Wanderers victory sees them undefeated after three rounds, in a very even and closely-contested year 9-10 competition.
Coach Delaney's team is shaping as a real threat to the powerful Saints team and their clash in round five will be eagerly awaited.
