BUSSELTON is set to benefit from an increase police presence after a meeting between Vasse MLA Libby Mettam and Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan on Thursday.

At a local police forum on Thursday, it was announced four additional detectives would police Busselton as part of an additional 38 officers for the South West Police District.
“I have advocated this with the Police Minister, Liza Harvey MLA, in the past, and she has visited the region and has discussed this issue with the Busselton police and community,” Ms Mettam said.
A recent petition from the community asking for additional police resources in Busselton garnered 934 signatures.
"The additional police for Busselton and the South West District form part of the state government election commitment to grow WA Police by 550 officers," Ms Mettam said.
"Today the Commissioner explained that a better use of resources and outcomes in the local community would be through targeting the causes of the crime and repeat or serial offenders through the provision of an addition four detectives.
"The boost from two to six officers by 2017 is a significant provision and the other additional officers allocated to the South West District will be useful to utilise for pear periods and events."
