Eyes are the window to the soul in every sense in Jennifer Taylor’s work, her belief being what better way to translate emotion onto canvas, a concept she will be bringing to the Margaret River public this November.

In her exhibition “For Your Eyes Only” coming to Sugarman from November 18 through to December, it is the intimacy created by personal views and experience that Taylor will convey to a South West audience.
A natural with acrylic paint, pencil and water colour, Taylor utilises these mediums to mimic beauty in the world around her onto paper, a fondness for portraiture being the strongest link throughout her work.
Bold colour and feminine features draw the eye to her canvas, while it is the delicate detail in the finer elements, such as the eyes, that maintain attention within her work.
“I feel like you need that life in the eyes to create that sense of empowerment that only emotion can convey”, Taylor said.
“I love it when people look at my work and feel something from it, absolutely anything,
“I feel if anything makes you feel, that’s when you're attached to the artwork and you fall in love with a piece art; you’re attached because of your own experiences.”
Taylor can not define her style to a singular source, rather saying that she is the product of her interests in pop culture, pop art and the fashion world.
She will be displaying a variety of her work from years past to now, exhibiting her change in style and the journey through portraiture of the many faces that express herself and the people she knows and loves.
A natural magnetism to people and their stories create the work, with this same magnetism Taylor hopes will draw people to take in her creations on the white walls of Sugarman.
“I think (my work) is something different to the styles of other artists in the South West, it offers something that they (the South West audience) may not have seen before,” she said.
“I’d love the opportunity to introduce my work to a new audience, but also to hear and meet the community to see how my work translates in a new environment.”
Taylor’s exhibition “For Your Eyes Only” launches from 6pm on November 18 with the help of Colonial Brewing Co, Dormilona and Sugarman, with the community encouraged to come along and witness Taylor’s femme fatales in the flesh.
