Trying to keep the attention of a large group of children is no easy feat and yet, City of Busselton Mayor Grant Henley did it effortlessly.
Mr Henley headed down to Goodstart Early Learning in Dunsborough on May 24 to read to local children as part of National Simultaneous Storytime.
As part of the campaign, books are read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
“It’s a great initiative, reading is so important,” Mr Henley said.
“Some children get to school and have never had a book read to them.”
Mr Henley sat down to read the book The Cow tripped over the Moon to the children, managing to keep them all listening and entertained at the same time.
“Reading was a big part of our family when my children were growing up.
“I made sure to read them at least one story a day. Even if I was at work, I would call up and read to them over the phone.”
Goodstart Centre Director Jo Chapman was glad the Mayor could make it.
“It’s great to have someone from the community come down and read to the kids, the simultaneous storytime is a really lovely campaign.
“We work hard everyday to promote the value of reading and literacy to the children in our care. We are glad they had such an amazing time today.”
