A petition which supports the dualling of the Bussell Highway between Busselton and Capel is available for residents to sign in Busselton and Dunsborough.
Residents can drop into Vasse MP Libby Mettam’s office which is located at 16 Prince Street in Busselton, or visit Merchant and Maker at 8/35 Dunn Bay Rd in Dunsborough from Tuesday.
Ms Mettam said she would continue to advocate for the dualling of Bussell Highway between Busselton and Capel, which was essential for road safety and growing the South West region.
“I have written to Federal Transport Minister Darren Chester and discussed with Federal Finance Minister Mathias Cormann and Forrest MP Nola Marino the urgent need to upgrade this important section of road,” she said.
“There are two opportunities for the state government to fund the dual carriageway works.”
Ms Mettam said the roadworks could be funded from either the Main Roads budget or from the $44 million earmarked for regional road funding in the $1.2 billion package of federal transport funding provided to the state recently.
“Land acquisition has already been completed and funding to complete service relocations and environmental offsets for stage one were allocated in last year's budget,” she said.
“This section of road carries around 14,000 vehicles per day with volumes increasing significantly on long weekends and public holidays, up to almost double this number on the Fridays of long weekends.”
If anyone would like to have the petition available in their businesses for people to sign please contact Ms Mettam’s office on 9752 1949.
