WHEN Angus and Tessa Crawford arrived at the Emerald rodeo grounds, the tiny bull riders had only one thing on their minds – victory.
The Emerald brother and sister duo made up two of the seven young competitors to take on the poddy rides – and came home with an equal second (Angus), and a third place (Tessa).
Six-year-old Angus is determined to grow up to become a bull rider – and he knows exactly why he loves the sport.
“I like doing it because you get prize money if you come first,” he said.
“You can ride really well, and if you’re little they hold on to the tail and head and they hold on to you, but they don’t do that for me any more.”
Angus had his debut 12 months ago, and said he was especially excited to compete in Emerald with a new lucky accessory which was a gift from his parents, Jess and Ryan Crawford.
“My new chaps are (Toyota) Cowboys colours and when I got them they surprised me so much,” he said.
Meanwhile younger sister Tessa, five, only made her rodeo debut a fortnight ago in Comet.
After her second ride she said she was “excited”.
”I like it because it looks fun and it is fun,” she said. “My favourite part is doing it and riding the calf.”
When Tessa is finished growing up she said she wants to work with cattle as a “stockperson”.
