A month of activity and fun has begun with the start of the annual Festival of Busselton and organisers are calling on the community to keep certain traditions alive.
After a 52 year history, the float parade was at risk of being cancelled due to a decline in committee members and resources.
However, support from the City of Busselton, the Chamber of Commerce and community-minded individuals, who put their hands up to run the event, has seen it remain in the festival programme.
City of Busselton event coordinator Peta Tuck said the Float Parade had been an integral part of the summer experience in Busselton.
“Visitors and locals alike look forward to the colour and excitement of the parade,” she said.
“We’re very pleased to see it continue.”
Groups wishing to participate are advised to set Saturday, January 20 aside to join the parade.
Volunteers will organise the floats from 3:30pm before they travel down Queen St, then along Prince St, Stanley St, Albert St before returning up Queen St to Signal Park.
The Chamber of Commerce will award prizes in categories including best float, best business float and best float with children.
Float entry is free and booking is not required.
The Festival of Busselton runs until January 28.
The 2018 events include a Battle of the Bands, sand castle competition and a visit from STS Leeuwin II.
