A movie night will be held to raise money for the next installment of the City of Busselton’s Settlement Art Project.
An Aboriginal sculpture will be created by Fremantle sculptor Greg James as the the fifth bronze statue in the series.
In partnership with Film Harvest and CinefestOz, the Settlement Art Project steering committee will host a fundraising movie night screening Sweet Country on Wednesday, March 21 at the Orana Cinema Busselton.
The proceeds of the evening will be directed toward creation of the Aboriginal statue – a depiction of the Warrior Gaywal, who is a figure of important historical significance.
Four bronze statues have already been completed and installed in the Busselton Cultural Precinct - these being the Whalers Wife, Timber Worker, John Garrett Bussell and the much loved ‘Diego’, the Spanish Settler.
Councillor Rob Bennett, who chairs the committee, said that progression of the Aboriginal statue was very appropriate.
“The statue should be ready for unveiling in October this year,” he said.
“It will be a very special occasion for all involved in the Settlement Art Project, for Indigenous community members and for the community at large.”
Tickets to the fundraising moving night are $25 which includes Margaret River Dairy Cheeses, 3 Oceans wine, a chocbomb or small popcorn, and a small drink.
Tickets are available from the City of Busselton Administration and Civic Building and enquiries can be made to jacquie.happ@busselton.wa.gov.au or 9781 0335.
