Making the news a decade ago, the then Busselton Shire Council considered borrowing an extra $5 million to fund repairs to the jetty.
A shire-initiated community survey produced some negative perceptions of Busselton Shire Council. Residents were asked to rate their attitudes towards various elements of the shire and its management.
Results showed some “very negative” perceptions of the shire management, communications and in particular councillors.
Residents living in the Westfield Court units on West Street in Busselton were outraged at a new traffic island that was built at the entrance to their driveway.
In sport it was Geographe Bay Race Week and there was controversy in cricket.
Cowaramup sought an apology from the Busselton-Margaret River Cricket Association following a controversial weekend of semi-finals.
No A-grade cricket was played last Saturday, when Dunsborough were due to meet Yobs in the second semi-final and Hawks were due to meet Cowaramup in the first semifinal. Because of rain on Thursday and Friday, the turf wickets could not be prepared and both the games were awarded to the higher placed teams.
Consequently, Dunsborough sailed straight through to the grand final as minor premiers, while Yobs were deemed the losers of the second semi-final and therefore had to play in Sunday’s preliminary final against Hawks.
