The latest line up of talented authors and literary names has been announced for the 2018 Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival.
There are more than a few well known presenters sure to draw a crowd to this year’s event.
Author and journalist Geraldine Brooks headlines the 2018 programme, and the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival director Kerry Yabsley said she was ecstatic that Brooks would feature as part of the event.
“We truly have an incredibly strong and diverse line-up of writers coming to Margaret River for this year’s festival”, she said.
”The addition of Geraldine Brooks to an already impressive line-up of authors, journalists, literary icons and rising stars means the festival will be bigger and better than even before.”
Appearing alongside the Pulitzer-prize winning Brooks will be much loved Australian television presenter and author Dr Karl Kruszelnicki.
Dr Kruszelnicki is a well known science communicator on radio and television, and the author of 43 books.
Domestic violence crusader and Australian of the Year Rosie Batty, burn survivor Dana Vulin and award winning foreign correspondent Peter Greste will feature at the event.
Greenpeace Australia chief executive officer David Ritter, Q&A host Tony Jones, best selling author of The Bride Stripped Bare Nikki Gemmell, and the South West’s own Martine Perret have also been added to the packed schedule.
The three day event will take place at Voyager Estate, with major renovations to the Margaret River Cultural Centre dictating a change in venue and approach to the festival plans.
Voyager will become a hive of activity where the programme will include author talks, panel discussions, Q&A sessions, book signings, free lunch time talks and free activities for children on the weekend in the festival’s storytelling tent.
Fesitval director Ms Yabsley said it was shaping up to be a great celebration of literature and yet another reason for people to visit Australia’s South West.
“Margaret River in winter, with books, wine, local produce, top accommodation and Geraldine Brooks – it doesn’t get much better than that,” she said.
Voyager Estate managing director Alex Burt said the estate was looking forward to the “one off opportunity” to become the main venue for the festival.
“We have really enjoyed our association with the Readers and Writers Festival, so it is a tremendous pleasure to be able to host the 2018 event,” she said.
