Firefighters, emergency service workers and volunteers gathered in Busselon on Friday for a ceremony to commemorate International Firefighters Day.
The day honours firefighters who have fallen in the line of day and is linked to the feast day of St Florian, the patron saint of all firefighters.
At the ceremony, Department of Fire and Emergency Services Capes region district manager Danny Mosconi honoured WA firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice to make others feel safe and protected.
Mr Masconi said across WA, thousands of men and women regularly put themselves on the line responding to all kinds of emergencies anytime of day or night.
“They help the people of WA when they need help the most,” he said.
“The loss of a firefighters in the line of duty is felt deeply across all services, brigades, units and the community.
“Today we take time to reflect and share in the sorrow of losing a colleague, family member, partner or friend.”
Mr Masconi said the memorial service was also a time to acknowledge and show gratitude to firefighters who continued to serve.
"These dedicated men and women are on standby around the clock, ready to respond to emergencies at a moment’s notice.
“They respond without hesitation, putting years of training into action.”
