Vasse Primary School have smashed their attempt to break a Guinness World Record but now must wait for verification for it to become official.
The school managed to get 890 people together dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 to become the ‘Largest gathering of people dressed as Dr Seuss characters’.
The figure was achieved by students, teachers and community members who dressed up to celebrate a love of reading and to inspire students to appreciate the timeless stories of Dr Seuss.
Their attempt trumps the current record of 686 characters, which was achieved in February by Heron Pond Elementary School in the USA/
Vasse Primary School principal Sinan Kerimofski said the record was a creative way to motivate students to read and create a sense of belonging for every child.
“It is exciting to all come together and achieve something as a community, we are always seeking ways to create a sense of belonging and connectedness,” he said.
The Vasse school community has increased in numbers dramatically over the last few years moving from a rural school to a semi suburban environment.
"It's important the school maintains the tight-knit feel,” Mr Kerimofski said.
“The strong culture is reinforced and well supported by all parents, staff and community members."
Cape Naturaliste College media students were on hand to film news and current affairs stories as evidence of the record.
Witnesses included Vasse MLA Libby Mettam and Cape Naturaliste College principal Mark Gillett.
Characters were counted through the entrance by Busselton Police Officers.
All documentation will be sent off to the Guinness World Record officials for verification.
Characters on the day had to remain assembled for five minutes and upon achieving this the entire group performed ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ lead by music teacher, Karen Bigwood.
