The Busselton Senior High School community came together from far and wide to celebrate the school’s 60th birthday on Saturday, August 11.
Past and current students, staff and parents were welcomed to the campus when the school was open to the public during the day.
There was an extensive display of memorabilia in the Performing Arts Centre which bought back many memories for everyone who attended.
There were heartwarming reconnections made with students who graduated in 1967 seeing each other for the first time since leaving school.
School tours were offered with current school councillors and a delicious morning tea was enjoyed by all.
The celebrations culminated with 130 people attending a semi-formal evening event in the Busselton Senior High School gym.
Minister for Education and Training Sue Ellery was in attendance along with Education Department deputy director general Stephen Baxter.
Guests were treated to performances from Geographe Bay Music’s Jazz Bands, as well as two numbers from the recent school production of the ‘Wild West’.
Past student Jake Bigwood performed a moving rendition of ‘Old Man River’ and speeches from first head boy Alan Miles and past student Troy Buswell kept everyone entertained.
Current Principal Dainon Couzic said during his speech anniversaries were wonderful occasions for
recalling the years gone by and for crystalizing a vision for the years ahead.
“I hope our 60th anniversary today provides past students, staff, parents and community members with an occasion to reconnect to people and events from your past high school years and I hope it provides our present students, parents and staff with an opportunity for you to contemplate that you are indeed making your own significant memories for your own individual histories,” he said.
