The City of Busselton has brought forward restricted burning times due to seasonal conditions.
‘Rapidly’ changing conditions, lack of spring rain fall, and a recent fire prompted concern and the original November 2 date was deemed too late for the restricted burning times to commence.
The restricted burning period will now commence on October 15.
The decision was passed by the City of Busselton council on October 10 after formal consultation from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions and Busselton fire control officers.
Last week, a bush fire advice was issued in Yallingup Siding.
The report from city officers stated the fire behaviour experienced was more significant than had been expected.
“In order to reduce the risk to the community and infrastructure, bringing the restricted burning time period forward will enable additional conditions to be placed on burning being conducted,” they said.
“This will potentially reduce the risk of a fire becoming uncontrolled.”
Burning permits are now required from October 15 to December 14 and March 1 to May 12.
All fires are prohibited from December 15 to February 28.
