Busselton Bowling Club is looking forward to an exciting 2019 season after receiving two generous community grants.
The club was selected from more than 400 sporting clubs around the state to receive $4000 sports grant from Community TAB.
Community TAB has been awarding at least one grant each month to a local sporting club as part of an ongoing commitment to giving back to the WA community by supporting sport and recreation in WA.
Busselton Bowling Club vice president and coach Helen Paganoni said being awarded a Community TAB grant was a significant achievement for the club.
“The club has been supported by local sponsors for competition and usually our volunteers work long hours to raise funds for its capital needs,” she said.
“So receiving this grant is recognition for a motivated group of people who proudly maintain 24 rinks on grass greens which parallel the best in Australia, and clubhouse facilities that can cater for small to large groups at any one time.”
Busselton Bowling Club is a popular venue for casual bowling, as well as spring and summer corporate bowls programs.
The club also boasts a noteworthy record for being competitive and at the top of the league, and welcoming new members every year.
It capped off a stellar 2017-18 season by receiving Bowls WA’s Jim Murray Award for the most outstanding country club in the state.
Busselton Bowling Club recently launched the popular Bowls for the Disabled program, and the club plans to launch the Junior Bowls program in 2019.
The launch of Bowls for the Disabled and Junior Bowls has been supported by Busselton Water, who have contributed a set of new lightweight bowls.
Busselton Bowling Club program coordinator, Wayne Coyle said Busselton Water’s funding had helped the club to make the sport more accessible.
“These new sets of lightweight bowls mean we can now engage with people who have a disability as well as juniors,” he said.
“Bowls is an enjoyable game for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities – even more so with these new programs.
“We’re able to now able to welcome families with children too helping to lower the age of our average member.”
Bowls for the Disabled is held every Friday at 10am.
