For Busselton, it was the first birth of 2019, but for Milo Cruz Penfold it marked the beginning of his first holiday.
Milo was born at 5.12pm on January 1 at Busselton Health Campus to parents Gavin Penfold and Melanie Lake.
The family hail from Exmouth, but chose to travel south to welcome their newborn, who is the baby brother to Savahna, 2.
“Mel used to live in Margaret River so we have a close network of friends in Margaret River, Busselton and Perth,” Gavin said.
“As you can’t deliver at Exmouth Hospital, Busselton was our hospital of choice.
“We came down from Exmouth four weeks before the due date, which was Christmas Day, and we’ve snatched the title of first baby of the year.”
Gavin said the New Year’s Day date was ‘heaps better’ than Christmas Day, as Milo wouldn’t luck out when it came to gifts and there would always be a big celebration.
Milo weighed in at eight pounds, eight ounces.
The family will travel back to Exmouth on January 8.
Young traveller Milo will settle into the North West life after his little down south adventure.
