William Barrett and Sons facilitator Dee Melbourne and Ceremonies and Counselling counsellor Laurissa Knowles will host a series of grief sessions.

The grief sessions at William Barrett and Sons in Busselton, which are supported and hosted by South-West grief counsellor Laurissa Knowles, have got off to a good start.

Community members have attended and shared openly about their common experiences of loss. Some have experienced the loss recently, for others more time has passed yet the feelings still remain.

People who attended were surprised that others in the community were experiencing similar feelings around the death of someone very close to them, feelings of isolation, loneliness and exhaustion just to name a few.

Some of the participants commented that it felt good to know that they were not the only one who felt that way.

Those who have attended said they felt a sense of relief and support when sharing their personal journeys.

At the sessions people had the time to reflect by lighting a candle to honour their loved ones and pausing together to take a moment from their day-to-day life.

The sessions have been a step toward healing for some and a chance to acknowledge their loss for others.

Ms Knowles said it had been wonderful to see men and women of varied ages, stories and background come together in their grief.

There are more sessions scheduled to take place including the loss of loved one to suicide at 5.30pm on Tuesday, May 28 and the loss of a loved one to terminal illness at 5.30pm on Tuesday, June 4.

"All those who feel that this would be helpful to them personally are very welcome to attend," Ms Knowles said.
