Wheelie bin stickers to encourage keeping cats and dogs inside at night are now available for Geographe catchment residents wanting to pledge their commitment to helping the critically endangered western ringtail possum.
The free wheelie bin stickers can be used by responsible pet owners, or non-pet owners wishing to help foster best practice pet ownership behaviours within their street or community.
GeoCatch project officer Nicole Lincoln said placing a Pets Away, Possums Play bin sticker on street bins acted as a prompt to remind pet owners that keeping cats and dogs contained at night reduced injury and death to the critically endangered western ringtail possum.
"Being a responsible pet owner starts with you and means ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of your pets as well as protecting the possums and native wildlife," she said.
"Keeping pets inside at night allows possums and wildlife to feel safe to forage, feed and thrive."
To grab a bin sticker, join GeoCatch and partners these school holidays in the foyer at Vasse Coles between 9am and 12pm on Thursday July 18.
Free activities will also be held including possum craft and storytelling, see a possum up close, have a photo taken with possum mascot Western and take home a possum friendly native plant.
Alternatively residents may contact GeoCatch via email geocatch@dwer.wa.gov.au or phone 9781 0111 to receive a bin sticker.
Providing bin stickers to interested residents is a GeoCatch initiative, in partnership with Vasse Developments, the City of Busselton and Vasse Coles.
Pets Away Possums Play is delivered by GeoCatch with support from South West Catchments Council through the Australia Governments National Landcare Program, and the State NRM Program, in the Geographe Catchment.
