The City of Busselton Council will consider banning dogs from Barnard Park East at its next meeting which will be held on Tuesday August 27.
The area where the ban could take place is bound by Ford Road, Geographe Bay Road, Marine Terrace and Georgette Street.
It was found the area provides habitat for the critically endangered western ringtail possums, and potentially the southern brown bandicoot.
Last financial year, funds were made available to fence the area to keep dogs out after it was identified as a regional conservation Park in the Busselton Foreshore Master Plan.
City officers have recommended that council prohibit dogs from the area at all times.
Officers commented their recommendation reflected the objectives outlined in the master plan and Western Ringtail Possum Habitat Protection Strategy.
If councillors agree with the officers recommendation assistance dogs or people training or assessing assistance dogs would be exempt from the ban.
Dogs are currently permitted on the grassed areas of Barnard Park East and may be exercised off leash.
