Revitalising Busselton's central business district is a priority for small business owner Kate Cox who has put her hand up for a seat on the City of Busselton Council.
Ms Cox has a degree in political science and a keen interest in policy, she also previously held a role at the Shire of Busselton's Environmental Health Department .
Now in a position to take on a new challenge, Ms Cox said she wanted to help give back to the community.
"There are some issues which I would like to see where they go and hopefully I would bring a slightly younger voice to council," she said.
"Being a business owner in Busselton's CBD, I think council have done a great job of the foreshore and a lot of ratepayers are really happy with what they have done.
"Now we need to focus on the CBD, it is looking pretty average, we need to link the beachfront to the CBD and revitalise the town centre.
"That is quite a big issue for me and I would like to follow up on what is happening with the airport, a stalemate obviously occurred there in terms of funding.
"I would like to see where the airport goes in the future because I think it will be a huge thing for Busselton in terms of imports, exports and tourism which will have so many knock on effects."
Ms Cox said she was also interested seeing sustainable developments occurring in Busselton and Dunsborough, along with fostering new types of agriculture.
"There is a fine balance of getting both right and is an area which interests me quite a lot," she said.
"Agriculture is another one, I am married to a dairy farmer, we have had a few tough years in the dairy industry.
"I am interested in fostering new types of agriculture in the South-West, we have lots of people doing really innovative things here, and in viticulture as well."
