The Busselton Croquet Club officially opened its revamped three court complex last Tuesday with South-West MLC Adele Farina and City of Busselton mayor Grant Henley.
With three newly laid turf greens, a renovated building and landscaped gardens, the club on Brown Street looked very inviting in the Spring sunshine.
Past and present members watched on as president John Boucher thanked the City and State Government for matching the clubs own fundraising efforts to help finance the transformation which has taken over two years to complete.
Other sponsors and contributors were also thanked. With much of the work being undertaken by the members themselves, the whole project was completed to budget and the club remains without a debt.
After the opening and morning tea members played croquet with Ms Farina who also tried the sport for the first time.
Ms Farina remarked how interesting and skillful the game was.
The club will now drive for new members to take up the increased capacity.
A Spring Tournament scheduled for November will bring visitors to the town from all over WA and those who have played before will notice a big change at the club.
The Croquet Club plays Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings and is open to anyone who wants to try the game for the first time.
