A crowdfunding campaign has kicked off to complete works for a community gathering place in Dunsborough next to Hannay Lane.
The area will be called Djiljit Mia meaning fish home in Noongar, highlighting the areas Aboriginal heritage, history and association with the Dugalup Brook area.
Dunsborough Progress Assocation volunteer Trish Flower said at the mouth of Dugalup Brook there were traditional fish traps from when people used to fish there.
"Aboriginal people would come and have ceremonies in the area and smoke their fish," she said.
"The uniqueness of this place is while we have some funding, we are relying on contributions of materials, machinery, labor and some additional funding.
"We have enough to go ahead but we need additional funding for landscaping and sculptures."
The project is a collaboration between community groups Dunsborough Progress Association, the Dunsborough Men's Shed, The Cove, Bendigo Bank, Cape Care and the Lions Club.
Tax deductible donations can be made at australianculturalfund.org.au/projects/djiljit-mia-community-gathering-place/.

Work is expected to start on February 9 and go through until the end of March 2020.
