It was a local victory in this year's 2020 B.F.S Busselton Cup with evergreen Captain Proud producing a last to first victory in a classy cup field.
At 25 to 1 the old man of Busselton wasn't given much hope by experts.
Not because of his class, but because a good bunch of horses had advantage with The Captain off the back mark of 20 metres.
With everyone starting well Captain Proud settled last for driver Corey Peterson and with a good tempo up front it brought the back markers right back into the event.
With a lap to go Peterson sent Captain Proud around the field and with 300 metres to run struck the front and pulled away from rivals to win by three lengths; with Peterson saluting the crowd and giving Kym Neal her first Busselton Cup after Captain Proud ran second the year before.
He would also break the track record.
Captain Proud was born and bred in Vasse and lived only minutes from Kym, who has lived in Yallingup Siding her whole life.
Friend Barry Bennett would send Kym Captain Proud after vets told him he was never to race again due to injury.
He wanted Kym to find him a great home but gave Kym instructions if she could get him to race he'd just love to see him compete again.
A year later the rest is history.
Barry and Pam have been big supporters of Kym, with many of their horses at her stable and Kym would say she wouldn't be in this situation if it wasn't for them and is very grateful to them both.
Also on the night Torpedo Rock would end connection's frustrations when winning the last for trainer Chris and reinsman Aaron Beckett.
Sitting in the breeze he would prove too good, winning by a length and stablemate Major Spoilt would finish second at Gloucester Park.
Dats Abit Harsh for Reece Kaptein would run a huge race after being slow away and losing lots of ground, but would steam to be beaten by only half a length.
