Despite the rain hammering down from start until finish on Saturday September 26, the Busselton AFLW youth team celebrated their first premiership.
Team manager Richelle Pigott said the the girls fought hard in tough weather conditions.
Busselton's opponents were South Bunbury who won against Manjimup the week prior to book their spot into the grand final.
Pigott commented on how both Busselton and South Bunbury were underdogs in the association last year and were now the best two teams.
She said the score did not reflect the competitiveness of the game from both sides.
The final score was 2.5 (17) to 1 point.
"In all fairness to South Bunbury, they were competitive and played really well," Pigott said.
Peel star Ella Roberts was the first Magpie to kick a goal in the match and Mia Dronow bagged their second major.
The pair were runner-up in the association's fairest and best for the 2020 season.
Best on ground for the grand final was Busselton player Che Hanscombe.
Pigott said Hanscombe moved over from New Zealand earlier in the year and had never played AFL until this season.
"She has just excelled," Pigott said.
But Pigott wanted to commend all of the players as it took all 22 of them to win the flag.
"It was a collective effort and they all put in 150 per cent," she said.
The passion for the game is obvious when you talk to both Pigott and coach Glenn Darby who are motivated to be positive role models for the girls.
"The sport gives them a place of belonging, fitness and mateship - it is so much more than kicking a football," Pigott said.
The girls will be celebrating their season alongside the Busselton junior boys teams when they have their annual presentation night on October 10.
