After a tough year in 2020 when the South West interclub series was cancelled, the local motocross year kicked off with the Southern Capes Motorcycle Club hosting round one of the Bunbury KTM Suzuki SW interclub series on Sunday.
More than 160 riders from the South West clubs of Busselton, Bunbury, Collie, Manjimup, Cranbrook and Narrogin raced hard all day across 11 junior and senior divisions on Southern Capes fantastically prepared Jindong track.
Some of the standout performances of the day in the junior classes included Deegan Fort (Manjimup) in the 65 and 85cc small wheel classes, Leah Rimbas (Southern Capes) in the 85cc big wheel class, Patrick Butler (Bunbury) in the 85cc big wheel and 125cc 2 stroke class and West Reid (Bunbury) in the 250 class.
In the senior classes the fastest consistently all day included Paul Smithson (Manjimup) in the Vets, Jacob Jones (Cranbrook) in the Clubman Open, Jasmine Clark (Cranbrook) in the ladies, Jayden McFerran (Southern Capes) in MX2 Lites and Campbell McMahon (Manjimup) in the MX1 Open class.
The feature race of the day, the Jack Gerrard Memorial Shootout sponsored by the Gerrard family.
This year, the shootout was taken out by John Darroch in an awesome race commentated by Jack's father Ray.
The next race round for the Southern Capes club is a combined club day to be held with the Manjimup club on Sunday April 18 at Manjimup's Cosy Creek track.
