The Gail Kearney Memorial Busselton Hospice Golf Day raised $34,800 for Busselton Hospice Care Inc which was held at the Busselton Golf Club on March 26, 2021.
Now in its 18th year the annual fundraiser has almost reached a total of $580,000 for the organisation which provides services to people in the community who are at the end of their life and to their families.
Busselton Hospice Care Inc vice chair Jeannie Davis said they were thrilled to accept the donation which was a great contribution to keep BHCI running because they did not receive any government funding.
Event organiser Mike Kearney said it was the community which raised the funds and the support they received each year was fantastic.
"A lot of them are the same people who have supported us for the past 18 years," he said.
"It is the community who raise the money and the people who participate on the day."
The event organisers are already planning next year's event for March 25, 2022.
"It is back on," said event organiser Neil Honey.
"BCHI is an important resource to our community and people recognise that."
Event organiser Glenn Paterson said without the amount of money the golf day has raised for BCHI, the organisation would probably not exist as it does today.
"If that money had not of been coming in those services may not have been available," he said.
"Because of COVID-19, we had two golf days within six months of each other which raised around $70,000."
