Busselton Magpies fall to Eaton Boomers in the South West Football Netball League

Busselton Magpies had a double header on the weekend where the League team faced the Eaton Boomers in a top of the table clash on Saturday.

With a number of key players unavailable, Magpies rallied together to put on a determined and controlled first three quarters, taking a nine goal lead into the final quarter.

A change in circumstances in the match saw a complete momentum swing with the Boomers stealing a one point win in the dying seconds 45-46.

The second match of the weekend saw the Magpies face the Bunbury Bulldogs.

Still working new combinations, including the introduction of 16's Holly Jo Delaney and 18s Kristyn Cook along with Felicity Watson making her League debut the Magpies showed a strong second quarter to pull away from Bunbury and take an eight goal lead into the half time break.

A determined Bulldogs team kept the pressure up, but the Magpies would not be denied twice in one weekend taking the win 52-44.

After being defeated on Saturday by the Eaton Boomers 31-51 the 18s regrouped and came out with nothing to loose and looked very composed after the first quarter with a 13-5 score line.

The Bunbury Bulldogs hit back defiantly shaking up the game as they won the quarter reigning the Magpies in.

A change up in positions at half time saw Felicity Watson move into wing defence which resulted in some intercepts but the Bulldogs had gained momentum out scoring the Magpies 7-12 which evened the score going into the final quarter.

Further changes were made to the Magpies lineup.

Sally Conroy and Lucy Burge converted their shots as did the Bulldogs.

There were end to end goals and a constant shift in leader before the final siren which resulted in a draw with a 39-39 score line.

The 16 and Under Magpies side also had mixed results with a win against the Boomers 38-31 before battling it out in a top of the table clash with the Bulldogs.

In a fiercely contested game the score line was even going into the final term with the Bulldogs managing to pull away to narrowly defeat the Magpies on this occasion 37-42. Next week is a general bye round in the SWNFL.
