Dreams of a grandfinal to finish the season were ended on the weekend for the Busselton Magpies 16 and under team when they were defeated by Mercy Leschenault Collie.
The young Magpies, playing their first season in the South West Netball Football League, did not disappoint the crowd with a fight to the very last whistle against the rising Mercy Leschenault Collie team.
The Magpies players showed composure and grit fighting back quarter after quarter at some stages up to 15 goals down and then only a three goal gap.
The versatile team had Tess Taylor and Tiahni Baggetta enter the court at half time with hope the fresh players could stir up the Mercy Leschenault Collie team.
It was the final quarter that saw the Magpies finally grabbing a win with a two goal catch up, not enough to get them through, a final score of 34-42.
The Busselton Magpies will celebrate their season at the annual presentation night held later next month. Trials for the 2022 Season are on 23rd October and then it's a well deserved summer break before returning for pre-season training next year.
The Busselton Magpie's League team were waiting to see who their opponents would be in the SWNFL Grandfinal and will play the Eaton Boomers who narrowly defeated the Bunbury Bulldogs 49-46.
They play at the Eaton Recreation Centre at 7.30pm on Saturday 11th September.
