BUSSELTON’s 24 hour Caltex Star Mart has made a generous donation to the Black Dog Ride foundation after holding a fundraiser earlier this month.
Black Dog Ride was established by Steve Andrews to raise awareness of suicide and depression after losing his mother and several friends to suicide.
The organisation is an annual event where motorbike riders from every state and territory (minus Tasmania) converge on the highways for locally coordinated rides.
“The day was a great combination of exposure and awareness,” Mr Andrews said.
Caltex Star Mart Manager Paul Scott said he was blown away with the amount of community support received on the day.
“Caltex Star Mart fuelled cars and cleaned windscreens for people to encourage them to donate,” he said.
“A total of $969.50 was raised in eight hours so it was a good response.”
Mr Scott said he wanted to thank their sponsors Red Bull Australia for donating dairy and energy drinks to the cause, as well as PFD Food Services Bunbury for supplying the food.
Mr Scott along with Les James from Cars on Cook presented Mr Andrews with all of the funds raised last week.
“The bank is going to love me when I take this heavy tin in,” he joked.
