THE future of Busselton’s Multi-Functional Civic Centre relies on public feedback as the project goes out for comment.
The $28 million centre will be able to cater for more than a hundred different community functions and events.
There are two major elements to the project which will include a Civic Administration Building, a Multi-functional Civic Centre with a Performing Arts Space.
Some possible uses for the centre include school balls, performances, weddings, exhibitions and conferences.
City of Busselton councillors held a cultural partners group meeting last week to discuss the concept plans and costings.
The construction of the building will be paid with a $22.5 million loan, a Lottery West grant and other budget reserves.
As a result of the 20 year loan and maintenance costs, the City is expecting a rate increase of 1.25 per cent over three years and 0.5 per cent in 2017/18.
Councillor Tom Tuffin said with the expected population growth, the rate increase was not expected to continue over a long period of time.
Councillor Gordon Bleechmore said it was always the City’s intention to return the Civic Centre to the community.
He urged the community to get on board by completing the community survey which is available from libraries, the Council Chambers and online until May 5.
A thousand copies of the survey will also be sent out to the community at random addresses to ensure a wide variety of feedback is received.
