THE future of Busselton’s newest annual music concert could be in jeopardy following the announcement of a rival event.
Busselton’s Oz Rock Concert is set to share the same Australia Day long weekend date with the newly proposed Australia Made music festival in Mandurah.
The events will share the same target audience with a similar line up and January 24 date.
Busselton’s Oz Rock concert was first held over the Australia Day long weekend in 2014 and the 2015 event will feature Icehouse, James Reyne, Diesel, Ross Wilson, Wendy Mathews and the Absolutely 80’s super group.
While the line-up for Mandurah’s festival is yet to be announced it has been proposed to showcase up to six individual Australian acts.
City of Busselton events coordinator Shane Walsh said while the planning of Mandurah’s event was “short-sighted” he wasn’t too worried.
“Common sense would have made it for another night over the long weekend, but we have a strong line up and are confident” he said.
He said the City of Busselton had an informal agreement with Bunbury when it came to planning large events and had hoped for the same with Mandurah.
Mr Walsh said diluting the market for the same weekend could mean tickets may not sell for both and hoped it wouldn’t happen again in the future.
