THE South West Strikers women's hockey team had their first game in Busselton for 2015 on Saturday against a young Peel side.
The Strikers were impressive as they came out of the blocks with high intensity and skill to have four goals on the scoreboard in the first half.
A stronger performance by Peel in the second half only saw the Strikers score one more goal but they came away with a dominant 5-0 win.
Goals were scored by Jenna Gmeiner (2), Penni Yorke, Holly Hyder and Tahnee Gibbons with Carly Williamson being awarded Strikers' best on ground.
Busselton's only women's SWL team Robins, came up against Associates in Busselton on Mother's Day in perfect conditions for hockey.
Games between these two teams have always been close contests and it appeared that this game would be no different.
Associates came out the stronger of the two teams and were soon rewarded with a goal.
Towards the end of the half Robins increased the pressure and soon levelled the game at one-all.
The second half started like the first half with Associates being the stronger team but was not able to penetrate the strong Robins defence.
A sickening clash of bodies stopped play for a considerable length of time with an Associates player having to be helped from the field.
Once play resumed, Robins ran over the top of Associates and three second half goals saw them come away with a 4-1 win, cementing their place on top of the SWL table.
Goal scorers for Robins were Penne Yorke, Brooke Williamson, Jasmine Burrell and Carly Williamson with Tiff Jecks, Dana Carter and D'Arne Wild being named best players for Robins.
Both Strikers and Robins have had strong starts to the hockey season with SW Strikers being second on the Promotion 1 ladder with three wins and one loss and Robins one game clear on top of the SWL ladder with six wins and a draw.
