THE Busselton Swimming Club has made a successful return to country pennants placing second in their division and winning close to 100 medals including 41 gold.
A team of 14 swimmers travelled to Moora for two days of swimming against country swimming clubs from all over the state.
They took swimmers aged eight and up including parent Amber Bee who came out of retirement to represent the club at country pennants.
Each of the club’s competitors claimed at least two medals.
Damon McArthur, Ella Johnson, Ryan Yeates, Olivia May and Amber Bee claimed their first medals for the Busselton Swimming Club.
Despite swimming in a higher age division, May brought home two silver medals.
The club’s youngest swimmer Spencer Drummond claimed three silver while McArthur, Ryan Yeates, Amber Bee, Charlie Bee, Piper Williams, Jed Norris and Isobel Norris claimed four individual medals each.
Lauren McGregor, Johnson, Liam Wright, Ross Rann and Amy Kerr made a clean sweep of their events to bring home four individual gold.
The club also fought out a tough battle with Hedland Swimming Club to bring home the gold or silver in every relay.
The strength of the Busselton Club was also evident when four swimmers broke longstanding country pennants records.
Liam Wright claimed the record for the open 100m backstroke and Ross Rann broke the 15-year-old 50m backstroke record.
Isobel Norris and Amy Kerr claimed their first records with Isobel Norris beating the 14-year-old 50m butterfly record that had stood for 21 years and Amy Kerr breaking the 10-year-old 50m breaststroke record that had stood for 17 years.
Coach Kylie Rann said she was so proud of all the swimmers who travelled to Moora for the meet.
She said a highlight was watching so many of her athletes win medals for the first time and the camaraderie between the swimmers.
She said the club are looking forward to travelling to Kalgoorlie for country pennants next year.
