On Sunday March 19 the Black Dog Ride will take off from Busselton for a one day ride through Nannup to Collie.
Black Dog Ride was established in Busselton in 2009 by Steve Andrews who rode his motorcycle solo around Australia in 26 days to raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention.
Suicide is the leading cause of death in Australians under the age of 45 with eight Australians take their lives every single day.
In Australia, 80 per cent of all suicides are men, and one in five Australians experience mental illness every year.
All around Australia on March 19 over 7000 riders in 34 locations, will ride to raise awareness about depression and suicide prevention.
They will also raise money through registrations and donations to support the prevention programs that are implemented by the organisation.
The South West Black Dog Ride one day ride supports Lamp Inc. South West. Lamp which is a community based non government organisation working with consumers, carers and families who are affected by a mental illness.
Lamp assists people during their recovery to integrate into their local communities and provide training, information and support.
Black Dog Ride also encourages local community organisations including the PCYC, Lions clubs and Country Women’s Association.
