Scandals and stories from Busselton’s historical past can be uncovered on the new Heritage Trail walk through the town centre.
The Rotary Club of Busselton Geographe Bay kick started the project and chose 20 sites to be featured on the walk which can be located through a book and Your Margaret River Region mobile phone app.
Heritage Trail committee member Sandra Johnston said as you walk around the trail you can listen to a Busselton resident talk about the historical significance of each site.
“We tried to use amusing stories were we could, some of them are very funny and you think ‘oh-my-goodness-me,’ some of the stories were really good,” she said.
“There was a small scandal attached to St Mary’s and lots of interesting stories about prisoners escaping from the Court House.
“The actual buildings and heritage information was all taken from historical records.”
Ms Johnston said the trail started at Railway House on the foreshore and ended at the post office.
The Rotary Club provided $20,000 towards the project and the City of Busselton gave $7000 towards the plaques which were placed at each of the sites.
The trail received assistance from volunteers including local historians, the Busselton Historical Society, Busselton Oral History Group and the City of Busselton.
