Classical music is set to be in the spotlight in the South West throughout January, with three concerts being held.
The Chamber Philharmonia Cologne will perform classics from Germany plus works form Italian composers Niccolo Paganini and Antonio Vivaldi in Busselton on Monday and the chamber orchestra of St George’s College will perform two shows in Dunsborough at the end of the month.
The Chamber Philharmonia Cologne performs around 300 concerts around the world each year.
The chamber was founded Cologne, a German city famous throughout the world for its University of Music and its musical and instrumental teaching.
The multifaceted composition of the ensemble provides every member of the Chamber the opportunity to perform as a soloist.
The programme bridges popular and unknown works from the likes of Mozart and Vivaldi with compositions from people such as Sergei Prokofieff and Astor Piazzolla.
St George’s College chamber orchestra is made up of 17 young string players will perform a programme of classical music.
The ensemble received a standing ovation from a full house when they previously visited Dunsborough.
The members of the orchestra are mentored by Paul Wright, one of Australia’s leading violinists who, at the age of 11 was awarded a place at the Yehudi Menuhin school in England.
The orchestra is part of the college’s new young and emerging artists’ initiative established in 2016 for tertiary or post-tertiary students, to give gifted young musicians a chance to develop higher level chamber music skills.
The Vivaldi Bach Paganini concert will be held at St. Mary’s Family Centre, Busselton, on Monday, January 8 at 8pm.
Tickets are $40.00 for adults, $35 for seniors and $30 for children and concessions and are available from Callows Corner News.
The St George’s College Chamber Orchestra will perform at St George’s Community Care on Saturday, January 27 at 3pm and at Clairault-Streicker Estate on Sunday, January 28 at 5pm.
Tickets for the St George’s Community Care concert include a complimentary glass of wine and are $55 for adults, $25 for under 30s and under 12s are free.
Tickets for Clairault-Streicker Estate concert are $100 and include a two course meal and a welcome drink.
