A Dunsborough fitness instructor has helped young adults living with arthritis experience a fun and challenging workout.
Jungle Body South West’s Louise Innes was involved in The Arthritis Getaway, which was hosted in Busselton from March 2 to 5.
The program is run by Tim Yuen and Gloria Nicolosi, who were diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at a young age
The volunteer-based educational support program unites those who are 18 to 35 and live with arthritis.
This year, 16 participants from WA and one from Victoria attended the weekend.
Ms Innes said it wasn’t hard to modify the workout for arthritis sufferers, as Jungle Body was designed for ages 16 to 60.
“I just made it low impact and the whole point of Jungle Body is to enjoy it and have fun,” she said.
“There is no pressure – it is not about who jumps the highest or squats the lowest.
“It is about being a part of something, having fun and sweating at the same time.”
Ms Innes said she had received a positive response from the session.
“A lot of the participants have comment on my Facebook page with how much they enjoyed it,” she said.
“It makes you realise you take your movement for granted.
“You may wake up with a sore back but these people live with this everyday.”
Classes are held at the Naturaliste Community Centre on Mondays at 6pm, Thursday at 7.15pm and Yallingup Hall on Tuesdays at 6.30pm.
