In a statement on the band’s Facebook page, it was confirmed former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Danny Kirwan had died.
“Today was greeted by the sad news of the passing of Danny Kirwan in London, England,” Mick Fleetwood wrote.
“Danny was a huge force in our early years. His love for the Blues led him to being asked to join Fleetwood Mac in 1968, where he made his musical home for many years.”
Kirwan’s first appearance in the band was on their single Albatross.
He subsequently recorded five albums with the band, but was fired in 1972 due to alcoholism.
Despite being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, Kirwan did not attend the induction ceremony with his former bandmates.
Kirwan was plagued by mental health issues in the decades following being kicked out of the band.
At one point he was living homeless in London.
Kirwan died on June 8 in London.
Further details of his death are unknown.
