And just like that, the Busselton T20 Corporate Cricket season has been run and won, with the Lemons' shot at redemption coming to fruition at the Vasse Sporting Complex last Friday.
After being beaten by the Bin Chooks in the inaugural grand final last season, the Lemons went one better this year, defeating the Swingers in a great match played on a fast outfield in Vasse.
Winning the toss, the Lemons batted first and went about setting a total to defend. Jarrod Simpson faced the first delivery of the match, bowled by the Swingers' Brendan Cribb.
With a single run, the game was on. Ben Gerrans hit his first ball for 4 and continued on the retire on 26.
Simpson was caught by Sanford off the bowling of Tom Mitchell for 10 with the score on 23.
Holmes joined Gerrans at the crease and retired on 25 while Aaron Beckett, 2, and Ryan Wellings, 1, failed with their lofty standards set this season.
Paul Christenson hit 22 before he was run out with the score 4 for 122 in the 15th over. Rhys Johnson blasted an unbeaten 25 from only 11 balls, with two 6’s and two 4’s.
Ben Horrocks sacrificed his wicket after hitting 4 runs with the score on 7 for 147 as Jess Dornan remained not out on 20 after the Lemons' 20 overs.
Jackson Arbon took 2 for 10 from his two overs to be the pick of the Swingers' bowlers; while Bailey Sanford, 1 for 8 and Tom Mitchell’s 1 for 13 from his 2 overs were the best of the rest.
The Swingers were set 158 for victory.
Bailey Sanford and Jackson Arbon opened the batting in the run chase and both departed for nine runs, with Ryan Wellings taking both scalps.
Sanford could feel unlucky as Holmes’ catch to dismiss him brought the large crowd to their feet with what could only be seen as the catch of the century.
Aiden Fraser retired before coming back to the middle and being dismissed for 26 runs while Beau Chinnery, 27, and Tom Begley, 25, also retired.
When skipper Tye Denton was dismissed for 4, the Swingers were 4 for 106 in the 15th over.
Needing just over 10 runs per over, the pressure was building on the Swingers.
Tight bowling from Simpson, 2 overs, 2 for 7, and only 4 runs from Johnson’s second over, kept the run rate pushing higher before the Lemons ultimately kept the Swingers to 8 for 141 runs to be victorious by 16 runs.
This brought to an end another successful season which could not have happened without the support of sponsors Bunbury Busselton Towing, Trade Hire Busselton, the Busselton Dunsborough Mail, GWN7 and Southern Workwear; thanks to MM Electrical for donating the barbecue and cooking on grand final day, and to all players and supporters.
