With the original first round of the Men's Club Championships qualifying being rescheduled the previous Saturday due to poor weather conditions, this weekend's clear winter sky's saw a rare packed field turn out to play the Men's and Women's Monthly Mug and first of the four monthly stroke rounds counting towards qualifying for the Men's Club Championship matchplay in mid-October.
Ash Leaney played extremely well to lead the field with an even par round of 72. Three shots back were Gav Noney and Craig Lynn, both also playing great rounds well below their respected handicaps, with Craig winning the Monthly Mug nett event of the day with 67.
Ash has a long history of competing in Busselton's Club Championships, eventually finishing runner-up in last year's event and has previously won in 2012.
A great turnout of 17 ladies also played their Monthly Mug on Saturday, with Penny Kingdon taking first place nett with 74, over Sharon Koch and Jan Mountney on 76.
The Ladies Club Championships are also held in late September or early October in a different format over two weeks of stroke play and matchplay.
