Busselton resident Josh Yates is representing Australia at the World Transplant Games taking place at Newcastle in the UK.
Yates was selected to be the Australian flag bearer at the opening ceremony, saying it was such a massive honour to lead his team into the competition.
"I have already completed the five kilometre road race which was over very interesting terrain," he said.
"The track included some road through a countryside with cowpats on it, rocky sections and a gate we had to squeeze through.
"My support runner, me and some muddy puddles to dodge.
"Everyone was amazed I came back without any mud on my shoes or scrapes on my legs."
Yates finished 12th in the 5 km road race completing the event in 28 minutes and 3 seconds.
"I will also be doing the 800 metre and 5000m race walks both on the track, as well as, the ball throw." he said.
"This is my fourth World Transplant Games, I love representing Australia.
"It is very tough to win a medal and so far Australia have only one handful of medals this year."
