The Dunsborough Tennis Club has been named the Most Outstanding Small Club at the 2019 WA Tennis Industry Awards Night held at Optus Stadium on Friday.
The award recognised clubs with less than 12 courts which have an inviting culture, are accessible to the public, have implemented Tennis Australia programs, and have increased competitive opportunities for players.
In 2015, the club had just 30 members and worked incredibly hard to ensure the survival of the club, which now boasts more than 200 members.
Court upgrades, strategic planning, the installation of Tennis Australia's Book-a-Court technology, and additional coaching programs have been instrumental in ensuring the club's significant growth and ultimate survival for many years to come.
Mid-week and night social tennis, along with new coaching programs, including cardio tennis and group coaching lessons have contributed to increased participation and the inaugural nomination of both a mid-week ladies and junior pennant teams.
Club treasurer Michael Howes said the awards stood for a community minded club, determined to future proof itself for many years to come.
"We were thrilled to be named the 2019 Most Outstanding Small Club," he said.
"This award has been well received by our committee and members, and is a testament to the hard work of our long standing volunteers."
"The club relies on its volunteers to maintain the existing facilities and to welcome new members.
"Together with the enthusiasm of the coaches and the tennis committee we can ensure that our five-year strategic plan is followed and updated annually.
"It is because of the financial and motivational support received from our local authority - the City of Busselton and from Tennis Australia that our growth has been possible in such a short time."
More than 40 Award Nominations across 19 Award Categories were received for the 2019 WA Tennis Industry Award Night which has ran since its inception in 2002.
Tennis West chief executive officer Michael Roberts said the awards night was a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the sport's hard working clubs, volunteers, coaches and players.
"Our awards night is always such a great reminder of the contributions and achievements made by everyone involved in tennis," he said.
"WA continues to see growth across the sport which can only be attributed to the tireless efforts of our club volunteers and partner schools who continuously go above and beyond to ensure the delivery of our great sport.
"Our coaches maintain their position as some of the best in the country with athletes under their direction proving consistent and outstanding results across all levels.
"The rewards of everyone's efforts are then realised through increased club activity, top performing juniors and WA players who continue to do us proud on the WTA and ATP Circuit.
"None of this is possible without the contribution of everyone involved and our Awards Night helps to remind us of that."
All winners of the WA Tennis Industry Awards Night were nominated for their respective categories at the Newcombe Medal Australian Tennis Awards to be held at Crown Melbourne on Monday December 2.
