YOUTH theatre company Second Chance Theatre is bringing their brand new performance piece Coincidences at the End of Time to the Busselton Youth Centre.
Second Chance Theatre has been based from Murdoch University in Perth since 2012 and prides itself on creating imaginative plays to be experienced by the wider community.
Returning to the region for two more performances, the company is all too familiar with the Busselton area after performing last summer at the Busselton Youth Centre.
“We love the South West area. It’s vibrant, there’s a great culture about it too.” Director Scott McArdle said.
“One of the best experiences I’ve ever had was producing theatre in the South West.”
Their new work Coincidences at the End of Time plays with the idea of coming to terms with your actions from the past.
Protagonist character Peter is faced with these thoughts as the apocalypse occurs around him and he is left trapped with a former girlfriend to contemplate all he has done in his life.
“It’s an awkward, apocalyptic love story,” McArdle said.
The play was modelled after a one off experience McArdle had with an ex girlfriend where they discussed the relationship that had passed for hours on a chance encounter.
This provided much of the inspiration for the scripting and background of the performance.
Second Chance is also offering a workshop during their time in Busselton to any youth who is interested in performing their style of theatre.
“We have had a big response to the type of theatre we perform from the South West, as it’s not like any thing that tours around there,” McArdle said,
“We want to teach them how to make that kind of performance.”
Coincidences at the End of Time will be performed September 26 and 28 from 7pm with the workshop on September 28 initiating from 2pm at the Busselton Youth Centre.
