Northam’s Finest is currently showing at the Northam RSL Memorial Hall.
It covers all conflicts and has up to 2000 photographs.
The exhibition, which has taken two years to complete, is the work of local historian Jan James.
Also showing will be an exhibition of the Aboriginal men and women who served.
Ms James said her interest in all things military started in 1946, when she was just four years old.
Ms James’ mother took her and her twin sister Glen to welcome home the men from from the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion.
They had done their initial training at the Northam Camp and went on to become prisoners of war in the Japanese Changi Prison.
The horrific sight of the skeleton-like figures getting off the train at the old Toodyay Train Station created a lasting impression which remains with Ms James today.
The Shire of Northam has helped support Ms James with her display.
Northam’s Finest will displayed from 10am-3pm each day of the week leading up to Anzac Day.
