A number of unknown species of shark, and tiger sharks, have been reported 23 times over the period March 10-12 inclusive.
It is possible that the frequency or duration of the recent reported sightings may increase the likelihood of encountering a shark in the area.
The change in activity may be due to a possible change in environmental conditions with schools of Australian salmon being seen in the area over the last three days.
The community has been urged to be extra cautious and to obey any beach closures advised by Local Government, Parks and Wildlife or Surf Life Saving WA.
Keep informed of the latest detection and sighting information by checking the SharkSmart website or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.
If you see a shark, report it to Water Police on 9442 8600. All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to response agencies and to the public on the SharkSmart website and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.
Department of Fisheries authorities will continue to monitor the situation and to keep people safe, beaches may be closed.
