Busselton Primary School student Aston Brooks is eyeing off a potential AFL career, and with the kick on him - clubs should start the take notice.
The 11-year-old was recently crowned the champion of the Fremantle Dockers’ ‘Freo Long Bomb’ school competition.
Aston travelled to Perth with a group of his fellow students to compete.
He progressed to the state finals, where he took out the under 13s contest with a whopping 39.1 metre drop punt at Optus Stadium.
The Towns Junior Football Club player said he was pretty chuffed by the win.
“I knew I had a big kick on me but I don’t usually try like that and I tried my hardest,” he said.
“We were kicking from just outside the square and I got it pretty close to the 50 metre line.”
He was supported in the moment by his Dad and brother, Denver.
“My Dad was giving me advice on the wind. When I won he was really happy and my brother gave me a high five,” he said.
“Mum said she was really proud.”
The Year 5 student is a Hawthorn Hawks supporter and lists recent retiree Cyril Rioli as his favourite player.
He hopes to one day don the gold and brown for the Hawks, but said who to barrack for was a divisive topic in his household.
“One of my brothers goes for Freo, another goes for North Melbourne and my oldest brother goes for West Coast,” he said.
“Dad goes for the Saints, Mum goes for whoever Dad goes for and my sisters can’t choose a team.”
