The ladies bowling section of the Dunsborough and Districts Country Club have commenced their season with an announcement that they have agreed to change their club shirt to be the same as the men’s shirt.
Trevors Carpets is the main sponsor for the bowls club and once again agreed not only to sponsor the ladies shirts, but also to assist in sponsoring their main two-day carnival which will be held at the end of October.
The first day of play for 2018 was a major competition of consistency which was won by Lorraine Lewis sitting on 100 points; and not far behind her is Nina Boyne on 78 points.
This leaves them in a very good position when the second consistency day is played on November 7. Neither bowler plays pennants, and both play limited competition which makes their achievement outstanding.
The Dunsborough consistency is two days of two games each 120 up and requires a great deal of concentration and skill.
The captain and vice-captain pairs trophy fell victim to bad weather on the day and the competition was cut short to just eight ends.
Olive Jeanes, another player who does not play pennants, partnered Helen Reynolds to take out the trophy from Jill Winter and newcomer Gaye Wilkinson.
The ladies pennant season commences this week with all games played at Margaret River.
Last season the pennant format within our league was altered to compensate for each club struggling to submit a team.
However even with this altered format, no club apart from Dunsborough can enter more than one team of four players.
It could possibly be the time to start up a mixed pennant competition such as is played over east.
