Cape Cellars owner Rob Zahtila has reached a milestone and is celebrating 20 years since he first opened the doors in 1999.
Now in three locations, the small business began in a 100 metre square shop in Busselton and set itself apart by promoting the region to its customers and getting involved with producers, craft brewers and wineries.
"It still feels like yesterday when we opened," he said.
"We have done a pretty good job at promoting the region and letting tourists and locals know what we are about and what we produce in the region."
Mr Zahtila said what set his business apart was that local knowledge, service and products from the region.
"It is still a family owned business," he said.
"It is great, not every business gets to last that length of time and it has really changed hugely from when we first opened.
"We had a very small store, it was an ex-hardware store, we had to clear out all the hardware and sell it, then we brought in the liquor."
With stores based in Busselton and Dunsborough, Mr Zahitla said the most memorable part of the last 20 years was all the people he has engaged with throughout the years.
"It really is about the people, it is the customers and the staff that you get to work with and spend a lot of time with," he said.
"It is the regular customers that come through and you get to engage and chat with, you get to see a fair bit of their life.
"I certainly have customers that come in now who were only little - now their big - I have seen a generation of children come through."
Mr Zahitla attributed hard work, great staff and listening to his customers as the secret to his success.
"Great staff is paramount, as well as, valuing your customers and trying to provide them with the best service and the things they are looking for," he said.
Mr Zahtila said he had learnt lots throughout the last 20 years while running the small business and has tried to keep it evolving, changing and improving.
"It has been a journey, I had a couple of children in the meantime and now they are all grown up - or growing up - it has been a great journey," he said.
"I would like to thank all our customers, we have customers that have been with us from the day we opened and continue to be so.
"I am also lucky enough to have Margie, she has been here for 18.5 years."
