Registrations for the Busselton Runners Club Half Marathon and Fun Run open on Tuesday October 1, 2019.
The event is set to take place on the Busselton Foreshore on Saturday February 8 next year comprising of a 21.1 kilometre half marathon, 10km run and 5km fun run or walk.
Busselton Runners Club promotions coordinator Rose Williamson said they had secured inspiration athlete Brant Garvey as their 2020 event ambassador.
Garvey was born missing his right leg above-the-knee and was told that he would never be able to run, however he was inspired by his sister's courage who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
His sister reminded Garvey of how short life can be, and of the importance of not believing anything is impossible.
He realised the only way to know if something was impossible was to try it and find out so he embarked on a training program logging his progress along the way.
Eventually Garvey went on to complete an Ironman triathlon, setting a world record for fastest above-the-knee amputee to complete the event.
Three years later Garvey was the first Australian to compete as a triathlete in the Paralympics.
Ms Williamson said that Garvey would be a guest speaker at their buffet dinner which will be held on Saturday February 8, 2020 at the Busselton Golf Club, it is expected more than 100 people will attend.
Registrations for the run and tickets to the dinner can be made online at the Busselton Runners Club busseltonrunnersclub.org.au/.
