“As tourists arrive in the city, people need to lock up their houses, cars and bikes,” he said.
“We want people to take care when driving around, make sure seatbelts are on, don’t speed and don’t drink and drive.”
• Police stopped a car on Hadfield Drive early on Monday morning for a random breath test. The officers smelt cannabis and underwent a search of the car.
Cannabis, a smoking utensil and 0.5g of amphetamines were found.
The driver was charged with possession of cannabis, possession of a smoking utensil and possession of amphetamines with the intention to sell or supply.
He was already on bail for similar offences, so was remanded in custody to await a court appearance.
• A vigilant van owner alerted police when he saw a man taking electrical tools from his vehicle on Kent Street. Police apprehended him on Queen Street.
The 35-year-old-man was searched and a small amount of cannabis and methamphetamine were located. He was charged with stealing and two counts of possession of a prohibited drug.
• A black lady’s mountain bike was stolen from outside IGA Bayside on Sunday afternoon by a 16-17-year-old male. An olive green BMX, outside an Avocet Boulevard home, was stolen on Friday and a men’s white GT Avalanche Fall mountain bike was stolen from the front of a house on Fairbairn Road on Friday night.
• A Bignell Drive resident got a fright when they woke up to find a man in their house in the early hours of Monday morning. The intruder, described as a 20-30-years-old white male, ran away without stealing anything.
• Burglars broke into a Fairlawn Road business over the weekend and stole a Yamaha dirt bike and damaged a workshop at the premises.
